“If you take contraband to the airport, then how does that become the government’s problem?” Rappler quoted him as saying.
As for criticism hurled at the government for continuing to apprehend passengers with bullets, Roxas said the administration should not be viewed as a villain because it’s just doing its job as part of its ‘Daang Matuwid’ policy.
Instead of blaming the government, the public should view the cases within the “context of who really are behind these incidents,” he added.
Could be a Plot
Aside from defending the government, Roxas said he believes the cases could also be tied to the Asia-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) Leaders Summit which is slated to be held in Manila on Nov. 16.
“With the upcoming APEC, this could be a plot, a widespread demolition job to destroy the image of the government,” he said.
The Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer added he is not affected by threats to campaign against him by groups like Migrante-Middle East since he has nothing to do with the ongoing crisis.
“For Migrante and other groups, it is their right to vote or not to vote for any candidate,” he said. “Let’s just leave it to them.”
